Going to the beach is so much fun. Beach days are perfect for spending quality time together, unwinding and soaking up some vitamin D. However, the sun, sand and salt can get overwhelming for the little ones. With a little preparation, the beach can be an enjoyable experience for both children and adults instead of a stress-filled trip.
Here are some essentials to get you started:
Lots of water
Staying hydrated is extremely important, especially in the heat.
For example, hats and sunglasses. Sunscreen is a given. Even if you have applied some before leaving the house, bring the bottle along for reapplication.
More towels than necessary
Have enough towels for everyone to lie on, then bring extra for drying and wiping down the kids.
Snacks and finger food
Great for keeping children from acting up out of hunger. Have some bites handy in case the next snack bar is too far away.
Change of clothes and extra diapers (if needed)
This is a given for both children and adults. No amount of toweling can beat the comfort of fresh, sand-free clothes.
Plenty of wipes and paper towels
Not just for diaper change, but to clean little hands and faces too.
These are staple for beach visits. Go with the classic spade and bucket, or any other toys that your children wouldn't mind losing or getting dirty.
Bring your own beach umbrella
Or make your base somewhere with one. The shade provides some relief from the blazing sun when it's too much for your little ones.
Put down the camera or smartphone
So you can be fully present in the moment with your family.
